Position Summary

The PFC is responsible for the timely and accurate intake, registration and financial counseling process to include verifying and understanding insurance benefits. The PFC is responsible for documenting all components of the registration process in order to meet accuracy goals as determined by management. Is the point of service collections counselor in order to obtain authorizations and all documents needed to maximize reimbursement. Demonstrates the ability to collect patient responsibility and ensure a positive patient experience throughout the registration process.

 

Essential Functions

  • Performs registration processes, verifies patient's demographics and accurately inputs information. Verifies eligibility and obtains authorizations submits notification and verifies authorizations for services. Documents the account thoroughly in order to maximize reimbursement and minimize denials/penalties from the payor(s). Obtains federally/state required information and all consents and documentation required by the patient's insurance plan(s).
  • Verifies and understand insurance benefits, collects patient responsibility based on estimates at time of service or during pre-registration. As assigned, collection attempts may be made at the patient's bedside.
  • May provide financial counseling to patients and their families. Explains company financial policies and provides information as to available resources. Assists patients with completing all financial assistance programs available.
  • Communicates with physicians, clinical and facility staff, nursing and Health Information Management Services to resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns. Work to meet the patient's needs in financial services.
  • Consistently meets monthly individual productivity goals as determined by management. Completes daily assignments/work list, keeps productivity up to date and inputs information accurately. Identifies opportunities to improve processes and practices good teamwork.
  • Provides a variety of patient services and financial service tasks. May be assigned functions such as precepting new hire employees, recapping daily deposits, posting daily deposits or conducting other work assignments of the Patient Financial Counselor Team.

Qualifications / Certifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3 years of PFC experience preferred
  • Current TB Test
  • Background Check
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • The ability to work independently.
  • Requires strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong knowledge in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and strong database software is required.
